This year’s European Distance Learning Week is organised between the 5th and 9th of November by EDEN, bringing a series of topical presentations from experts and practitioners in the field to educators, researchers and policy makers. MicroHE, together with its sister initiative, OEPass, was introduced by KIC representative, Ildiko Mazar, in yesterday’s session, titled “Line Between Non-formal and Formal Education – Recognition and Credentialing of Learning“. The presentation was very well positioned in the session timeline, as the previous speakers prepared the ground with their analysis of issues in open learning recognition and the validation of competences from virtual, non formal or informal learning. Consequently, the introduction of the problems OEPass and MicroHE are dealing with, namely how open credentials are crucial components of the open education process model, was a perfectly fitted follow-up. The session concluded with an interesting, data driven presentation on Vytautas Magnus University’s learner interactions and engagement in their online course offerings.
The proof of the value of this EDLW2018 webinar – in addition to the attendance level – was that it prompted several questions from the audience This also indicates that our work will continue to interest and involve a wide range of stakeholders from higher education.
